I taught science and math in high school for several years and really enjoyed it. When I was a supply teacher, however, I found that covering gym classes was the most challenging. I now teach primary students and have no interest in going back to the older grades.

They made you a sub on your first day. Dirty pool. What did the apoplectic fat man expect? I will buy your book to find out.

Me too! I feel very sorry for teachers sometimes. Why we allow those monstrous drinks to be sold here defeats me. They are positively dangerous.

I've had some heart-racing, dry-mouthed, what-the-fuck-do-I-do-now lessons, but without exception, I'd prefer a double lesson of bottom set year 9s to a Wednesday evening briefing with SLT.

The mere fact that you know the word ‘duvet’ should be an automatic disqualification for teaching adolescent boys.

That you actually have one on your bed? 🤦‍♂️

Francis, Principal Jared Lamb would make a great guest for Triggernometry the next time you are in the US. I don't know any teacher that wouldn't want to work with him.

We've all been there! I was 23, Last 2 periods on Friday afternoon teaching Geography to the Year 8 class from hell, when the 2 periods before had been 'Clubs'. Nearly broke me. I lived in fear and dread all week. I even requested the head to observe and advise me. They totally ignored his presence. At the end of the lesson he simply shrugged his shoulders and walked out.

I've only just caught up with this. Very funny and true -- I think you did exactly the right thing, recognising you were out of your depth. I can't wait to buy and read the book.
