"Honestly, it feels too easy being a comedian in these demented times. You don’t even need to write jokes. You just write down what actually happens and then repeat it."
Theodore Dalrymple’s book “Life at the Bottom” is fantastic on this, how when you frame someone as a victim, not only are they clueless as to how they got into the mess they find themselves in, they are also powerless to get out of it too. I have huge issues with the DEI minions in schools for this reason, framing everything in a victim/oppressor diad is corrosive to everything it touches.
I'm reading this book at the moment, and one scene so far encapsulates this perfectly!
A man, who had chronically beat his wife and and mother, tells the good doctor in consultation that he needs help with his problem: uncontrollable anger. He is a helpless victim of some demon anger that possesses him and forces him to beat the women in his life.
Dalrymple points out that the man has had no such anger issues while in prison. The man unwittingly gives up the game when he blithely tells the doctor that **there is punishment in prison for assault**.
Here is a man smart enough to know whom he can beat with impunity and smart enough to use victim language to cloak his own criminality in the language of a pseudo condition deserving pity and treatment — and most importantly — exculpatory treatment. Yet, this is a perfect example of the types of people who in the minds' of prison abolitionists or punishment abolitionists deserve mercy and do not deserve imprisonment.
Compassion and mercy, unbalanced from justice and wisdom, are vices not virtues.
Francis, you’re dead on—we need action, and it starts with ripping critical theory out of our institutions like a tumor. This pseudo-intellectual rot breeds weakness, glorifies victimhood, and calls it justice. Burn it all down and rebuild on grit, merit, and a spine. Nothing less will do.
Is the corresponding reaction to helplessness on the right of the spectrum to blame immigrants etc for all their problems? The relentless demonisation of Haitians, Hispanics, Trans could be seen as a mirror for the wallowing in victimhood of those on the left etc. I’m not defending the more outré behaviour of the left. It’s just it seems as prevalent in the other side but takes a different form ie blaming nebulous other groups in society while the left blames the ‘system’ etc
Absolutely. The right are now attempting false victimhood, and spend so much of their time talking about a group of people who constitute way under a percentage point of the total it’s absurd.
It’s a good money maker though clearly, and there’s apparently an audience for it.
So many whinging, needy, self-obsessed takers clogging up the Media. A civilised society supports the genuinely needy, but wilful dependence on others is parasitic, immoral and destructive.
In the crowded room of life, aren't we all maneuvering through spaces and institutions in what feels like fat bodies? A fun article (top level shagger...I should read that to my pastor). Thanks for your work as usual!
You make Jesus sound like Russle Brand. Well, RB also has a gift that turns my lunch into vomit 🤢.
It's Raining jokes! Hallelujah, it's raining jokes. Amen!" With Woke and Two Teir Keir Stalin it's joke Monsoon season. "I'm only happy when it rains. Poor your misery down on me."
Hey, I have been here before. When the ANC got into Government, it seemed such an inspiring and hopeful time but from day one it was, Crazy Town. The first big problem that the ANC and Mandela had to face was the Aids crisis in SA. The first act of showing commitment was to issue out free condoms and a pamphlet giving advice in all the 11 official languages of SA on safe sex. Of course you would say, "Thanks Nelson Mandela. You are a Top Level Shagger!" However, the condoms were stapled to the pamphlet right in the centre of the rolled up ring bit. "Thanks but no thanks, Mr Mandela🙄" It was eventually called out in the media with reluctance. A lot of news papers were reluctant to print the story and tried to make it look like an honest mistake and not the incompetence of the new government. They had spent Millions on this but once called out they had to just throw away tons of useless condoms. It was downhill from then on.
You Brits like to take the miserable rainy whether with you wherever you go. I like to take the incompetent Socialistic politics with me wherever I go , it seems. Especially with Starmer I am saying, "Oh dear God! Not again!!!"
From where I stand, history is repeating. The one thing I understand about something repeating , you know what is coming and can be better prepared for it. I get to approach it differently and compare the two.
My German Grandmother was a young woman in the war. In her old age she talked alot about it. It would make her upset. She was married to a very grumpy English man who would always get cross with her for talking about it and shout at her, "You’re not bringing up the past again, are you?! What is done, is done. No good can come from bringing it up the past."
I asked my Grandmother why my Grandfather got so upset with her for talking about the war. She replied, "your Grandfather loves me and doesn't want to see me upset"
I then asked, "Why do you talk about it if it upsets you"
"Talking about it out loud helps it to be less loud inside my heart."
Like my Grandmother I am married a grumpy English man. He too, gets cross when I bring up my past. He says the same thing to me what my grandfather would say to my grandmother. Again History repeating itself. I just don’t feel as strong as my Grandmother, I feel like that little girl who lost her father when my husband shouts at me. My husband and grandfather are right though I need to let go of the past. However, I understand what my grandmother said about talking about it helps it not dominate your heart and mind. Though I can't talk to anyone about my past, I do have a place to go to make it less loud in my heart, Substack! I am writing to my daughter about my dreams. I have always have vivid dreams. It is called Behind Closed Eyes. My dreams have a lot of guidance for me and I want to pass it on to my daughter.
Though I am writing it to my daughter it is definitely more for me. Some way of saying it out loud like my grandmother explained. Hopefully, this will help me to let go and have a quieter mind.
I found myself a total coward unable to think or cope with a deluge, your words give me hope when I only now realise Facebook is totally gone. Just gone. After moving off FB/YT onto other platforms and had no idea this was where the center/conservative conversations had gone, I knew it was bad not the extent. I was told to log off and now I realise it wasnt in general, but just to other platforms.

Spot on - you can also meme it. The UK is not completely lost. Farmers like Kaleb Cooper work hard every day to feed the nation and deserve the world's full throated support: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/clarksons-farm-review-thank-farmers-protest-esg

It’s perfect isn’t it! Well done Francis, and we wonder why we have a crisis in boys.
Weakness does not make you virtuous, it makes you a target, a victim.
Also, apparently, moobs

It looks like you are part of that audience, Fibbble!

It’s so true. If I started wallowing in all my life’s traumas I’d 1. Scare everyone in my life away 2. Not stop
Can’t stand self-pity and victim-signalling which has become a real problem with this fragility movement. So much martyrdom too.

Brilliantly written Francis, 🎩 tip to ya‼️🙌🏼🤙🏼🫶🏼
BLESSED ARE THE CHEESEMAKERS!

Thanks.
I am reminded of the Peter Sellers film 'The Mouse that Roared'. It is all about the money and the power follows
I’d hazard a guess that Peterson doesn’t get jobs based as much on his atrocious personality and abrasive nature, as his insane views.
Next you’ll be defending Matt Goodwin.
Fibbble, it sounds like you could use a hug.
Good points well put but for the interests of clarity
